Obedience Classes are available for fully vaccinated dogs 3 months and over.

One hour obedience classes are held every Sunday between 9.00 – 11.00am and Tuesday between 7.00 – 9.00pm at the Club grounds in Greenway.

Dog Obedience is the foundation for developing a sound relationship between your dog and you, and those in your household. We offer 5 sessions of 8 weeks each Obedience training a year with group classes from Level 1 to Level 5 with approximately 10 dogs in each class.

Level 1 is an introduction to the basics of dog training. We show you how to go about training your dog, including use of the clicker, and can provide advice about common doggy issues and how to better manage your dog at home.

Please note that the first class of Level 1 is an intake lecture which outlines the training methods used, how the club operates and other useful information. Dogs must be left at home for this lecture.

Level 2 and Level 3 build on the skills previously learnt in order to achieve a well-trained dog that will walk reliably on a loose lead, become more proficient at sitting, standing and lying down on command, coming when called and staying when told. Dogs also become increasingly stable while being patted, allowing the dog to be placed in a sit or stand stay while they are touched and patted by another person. Level 2 and Level 3 offer great opportunities for building up teamwork and consistency, and to provide the extra training needed to ensure your dog’s place as a well-mannered member of the family. These levels also provide your dog with ongoing opportunities for socialisation and playing with new friends.

Level 4 and Level 5 give members the opportunity to challenge themselves with a higher level of precision training and can provide an entry point for formal obedience trialing. Level 4 is equivalent to the Community Companion Dog level of obedience trialing. These levels focus on high quality teamwork with the dog working as an enthusiastic partner.
